Month dedicated to Service

With great success, Day-Star School the month dedicated to the virtue of service came to an end.

Virtues are an integral part of Day-Star School student training. Its director, Mrs. Skallman, has always had as a priority the formation of values, and the application of them within the community.

The month of January was a month in which the virtue of service was repeatedly demonstrated by students, teachers, staff, and parents.

Beginning with a movie night, in support of a mother in need of surgical intervention. Funds were also raised with bottles that the counselors handled in their offices, in which the students voluntarily deposited what was they felt like.

Seniors had the opportunity to visit the Centro de Rehabilitacion Infantil Compartiendo Juntos. They arrived loaded with provisions that were delivered to the director of the center, Carlos Portillo. In addition to that, the students had the opportunity to spend time with the children. This was well received by the children and greatly helps the kids to become sensitized, and withdraw from their reality to know the harsh reality of the neediest.

Finishing the month of service, an assembly was held in the auditorium. However, the normal protocol of the Day-Star School assemblies was not taken.

From the beginning, Mrs. Skallman explained in a shaken voice that it was a very sentimental day for her.

As a follower of the Baha’i faith, the virtue of service is one of the most important for her; since for them, service is worship of God.

The assembly began with the usual handouts of diplomas to students, teachers and staff members who most demonstrated the virtue of service.

As a surprise to Mrs. Skallman, the teachers, and administrative & maintenance paid homage the great spirit of service that she has shown in her 29 years of living in Juticalpa. They decorated the auditorium with her name and signs of gratitude to the person who has taught us the true meaning of the word SERVICE.

Everyone in Day-Star agrees, that if there is someone who embodies the virtue of service, it is her.
